Conversatio Divina

Exploring Desire

As you may know, Conversatio Divina is focused on voices of authentic change and transformation that have stood the test of time. We place specific emphasis on contributions from Ancient Christian spirituality, Ignatius of Loyola and Dallas Willard—or as we like to say, “the early church and two very important reformers.”

This week we call your attention to the teaching video, Exploring Desire, by Trevor Hudson. The talk was created by Trevor and his friends at the Jesuit Institute of South Africa. We think you’ll find Trevor’s reflections on desire to be profound, pastoral, and practical.

In her wonderful book, Abide: Keeping Vigil with the Word of God, Macrina Wiederkehr states that “each of us houses an ancient longing. Our longing, however, has a tendency to grow weary. During these weary times, it needs a blessing. When our river of desire for God grows shallow, it needs to be deepened. When our flame of love grows dim, it needs to be rekindled.”

We think you’ll find Trevor’s words to be helpful to your deepening and rekindling of your core desires. And as you’ll hear in the video, it is important to pay attention to your deepest longings; they are your “bus ticket home.”
