“Dallas Willard’s Four Primary Concerns” | J.P. Moreland Lecture

Dallas Willard Affiliate Scholars Lecture Series

Prior to his passing, Dallas Willard relayed to J.P. Moreland four primary concerns that he had for the future of Spiritual Formation. Willard’s concerns are both simple and profound, yet they challenge the norms of our modern world. In his lecture, Dr. Moreland discusses these “Four Primary Concerns.” Dr. Moreland was one of Willard’s early doctoral students at USC and is the Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Biola University.

The purpose of the Martin Institute’s Willard Affiliate Scholar status is to foster generative connections and collaboration among academics whose scholarship is connected to the work of the philosopher and spiritual writer, Dallas Willard. Affiliate Scholars are viewed as informal consultants for the work of the Martin Institute and Dallas Willard Research Center (MIDWRC) and are looked to as significant figures in scholarship related to Willard’s work. The MIDWRC convenes occasional virtual and in person lectures for this group on topics related to Willard’s areas of interest.

Metamorphosis: A Sanctus Study Retreat

Occasionally, we announce upcoming events, opportunities, or resources that are sponsored by an outside organization that we believe may be of interest to our subscribers. This week we want to make you aware of an opportunity from Sanctus:

Take your spiritual formation to the next level this Spring/Summer with Dallas Willard expert Michael Stewart Robb and Sanctus, an institute for spiritual theology and formation based in Europe, as they launch a Study Retreat focusing this year on the human person and its transformation. Begin reading two Willard books at home, then travel to a beautiful (Protestant!) monastery in Germany, a place of prayer and worship for more than 920 years. It will be led by a team of experienced spiritual formation teachers and guides, including a retired Swedish Pastor who studied under Dallas at Fuller, joining his famous DM in class three times! He wrote this timely article about Peace in Times of Unpeace.
