The Martin Institute & the Dallas Willard Research Center at Westmont College are pleased to announce that the winner of the Dallas Willard Book Award for 2026 is Grace Hamman, Ask of Old Paths: Medieval Virtues and Vices for a Whole and Holy Life (Zondervan, 2025).

Ask of Old Paths focuses on the ancient tradition of virtue language called the Seven Capital Virtue Remedies: humility is the remedy for pride, love is the remedy for envy, meekness is the remedy for wrath, mercy is the remedy for avarice, fortitude is the remedy for sloth, abstinence is the remedy for gluttony, and chastity is the remedy for lust. Hamman’s book shows how learning about these pairs of medieval virtues and vices can help us diagnose and address our need for character formation.
