A Tribute to Dallas Willard: My Favorite Psychologist

Our theme for this week’s newsletter is Clinical Theology. Slowly we are building a collection of a number of essays under this banner. As you likely know, Dallas Willard, speaking at a conference on Clinical Theology, stated that “All theology should be clinical theology.” We believe he was referring to the “healing” nature of sozo (Greek for “salvation”) and also to the experiential nature of theology. So with that said, we hope you’ll enjoy this essay titled, “A Tribute to Dallas Willard: My Favorite Psychologist.”

Much of the material presented in this article is a synthesis of ideas I (Gary Moon) previously published in Spiritual Direction and the Care of Souls (IVP, 2004); Renovation of the Heart: Leader’s Guide (LifeSprings, 2003), Dictionary of Everyday Theology and Culture (NavPress, 2010), and the Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care (2010).
