Rites (and Wrongs) of Passage: The Formation of Emerging Adults in Secular Colleges and Universities

Joe Thackwell

This talk is from the session, Secularism Part II, the fourth breakout session of the 2018 Experiencing Life with God Conference, an academic conference hosted by the Martin Institute of Westmont College and Renovaré. Here is Joe Thackwell and David Williams's description: Our paper will propose models for the Christian spiritual formation of Emerging Adults within secular higher educational institutions. Drawing on James K.A. Smith’s work, we offer cultural-liturgical analyses and critiques of secular universities and parachurch campus ministries and suggest formative practices that both advance mission and deepen discipleship.
